Craft was Briana’s first ever love, although, as a child, she didn’t realize the gift it would give her later on in adulthood. She was fascinated by the way her ideas and imagination could transform into material objects. She couldn’t get enough of making pretty and sometimes not so pretty things that her days were full of drawing, painting and daydreaming. It is this passion and fascination for the entire design process that still inspires and motivates her to keep the flow of creativity today.
Jewellery is an incredible art form that speaks to Briana as an designer. She loves building her creations for the body within the constraints of everyday “wear”. It is these perimeters that challenge, intrigue, and inspire her to build and form multidimensional pieces that accentuate the human form, evoke curiosity and create motion. This love of making goes back to her early years, selling hemp and fimo necklaces at seasonal Christmas tree farms. From those early roots, she moved on to craft fairs and farmers markets with her beaded creations. Briana’s desire to evolve in her craft and add more skills to her repertoire led her to Kootenay Studio Arts in Nelson, BC. At this jewellery design school in the Kootenays, she fully immersed herself in the program, as an honour student, and found inspiration in the profound beauty of the surrounding lakes, forest, mountain range and quaint charm of the town. After school, Briana moved to Prince George to set up her rural studio surrounded by the forest and natural world, she adores. Today, she fuses her love of craft, interest in unique contrasting textures, and admiration for nature with a touch playfulness and contemporary flair in her brand, Urban Alchemy.
“I love jewelry. I love that I can sit at my bench, my happy place, and create pieces of art that will one day adorn a beautiful body. I love that through my craft, I share a small piece of my heart and my vision with my clients and fellow jewelry lovers.”
